# About Steady Pace

> Why Steady Pace exists: pace coaching by ear, runs that stay on your phone, and one purchase instead of a subscription. Built and tested by a runner.

An independent app made by a runner who wanted three things the big apps wouldn't give him: pacing by ear, real privacy, and no monthly bill.

## Why does Steady Pace exist?

I wanted to hold a pace without staring at my wrist. Every running app I tried did one of two things when I drifted off pace: a voice read my split a few seconds too late, or a watch buzzed once when I crossed a line. Neither told me what I needed to know: am I drifting, and which way?

Steady Pace uses a continuous tone. Set a target pace and it rises when you slow below it and falls when you speed up above it. You correct by ear without looking down. When you're on pace it goes quiet.

## Who makes it?

One person, an independent developer who runs. There's no company, no investors, and no one deciding which feature to put behind a paywall. The app is small and focused because it has one job to do.

It's been tested on real runs, over more than a hundred kilometres, including long days in the mountains where GPS drops. When something didn't work, it got fixed before the next run.

## Why is it so private?

Your runs are a map of your life. Fitness apps have leaked this data repeatedly. Steady Pace has no account and no server, every route is anonymized on your device, and the app makes no network connections. Put your phone in airplane mode and everything still works. Read the [privacy explainer](https://steadypace.ca/private-running-app) or the [privacy policy](https://steadypace.ca/privacy) for details.

## Why one purchase instead of a subscription?

A pace coach is a tool you buy once. One purchase unlocks every feature. Nothing is held back in a higher tier, and the app keeps working whether or not I'm around. Read the [no-subscription page](https://steadypace.ca/no-subscription-running-app) for the full argument.

## What's next?

More of the same, carefully. The point is to stay a sharp tool that helps you hold a pace and keeps your data yours. I read every email: [support@steadypace.ca](mailto:support@steadypace.ca).

Steady Pace is a one-time purchase on the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/steady-pace/id6773682525).
